Founder, Climate Justice Africa Magazine (CJAM), has been awarded a fellowship of the Institute for Climate Smart Research and Policy Advocacy (ICSR-PA).
Ms Onyekwere was inducted alongside other fellows at the institute’s second induction ceremony, held in Abuja on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. The event brought together participants in person and online to examine professional responsibility, climate governance and community participation in Africa’s transition towards a resilient, low-carbon future.
Commenting on her induction, Onyekwere called for stronger connections between climate communication, public participation and accountability.
“This fellowship strengthens my commitment to making climate knowledge accessible and useful to the people whose lives and livelihoods are affected. Through Climate Justice Africa Magazine, I will continue to amplify community voices, report on practical solutions and examine whether climate commitments translate into meaningful benefits. People must have the information and opportunities they need to help shape the decisions affecting their future,” she said.
Ms Onyekwere’s work through Climate Justice Africa Magazine connects environmental journalism, creative expression and public engagement. Its Art for Climate Action initiative explores how storytelling and the arts can bring more people into climate conversations.
At the ceremony, ICSR-PA’s Registrar General and Chief Executive Officer, Sir Richard Akase Inyamkume, urged professionals and institutions to integrate climate considerations into their decisions. His presentation emphasised community ownership, fair access to clean energy and protection for livelihoods during the transition.
Germany-based sustainability consultant and founder of U&U Consultants, Kerstin Apaga-Udasco, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of clear responsibilities and evidence when assessing climate commitments and project outcomes.
The ceremony placed people-centred action at the heart of professional climate leadership, calling on fellows to support informed decisions, inclusive participation and measurable results.
